Audition for main character;

As a group decided that when we come to film our trailer to get the best actor/actress. Therefore we decided to audition a few of our friends or people we thought maybe good as the character. This was also to help us decide who would be able to take it seriously and to find the actor/actress that will be able to create the right type of expressions.

Title Mind Map;

Here we created a title mind map. This mind map was used to collect a collection of thoughts for our title; which will ultimally hep us decide what we are going to name our film. Here shows a range collection of titles from some titles that seemed to fit better with a different genre; 'locco' and' crazy in love', both of these titles do not with the idea of a thriller genre. 'Locco' is a spanish term for crazy, but the prenuntion of the word makes it sound almost comical, and 'crazy in love' fits perfectly with a romance ganre. Therefore these were quickly taken out of consideration for the final title.

We decided on three titles that we thought wrked really well in linking in with the genre:

The first one was 'Rock a Bye Baby'  this was one of our favourtites as it links into the idea of plot. It fits in perfectly with the death of the baby which ultimately leads to the extreme effect of the mother. Which is the main story line and links with the main character.

The second was 'Miss-Understood'  this was cleverly developed with the general word which could be used to describe our main character. As she is in a lot of confusion. Also it links in with the polt as no one believes her story, thinking it is to extreme and a sign of her depression. However this maybe seen as bit cheesey. Also it does not represent the sub genre as well as it good.

Lastly another favourite was 'D.I.D you?' this title had a lot of thought behind it and has a range of meaning and representations. One meaning is that it is the first letters of dissociative identity disorder, therfore linking to the main character and the plot. As our thriller is almost like a narrative it is important to link to the main character. Also the questioning and confusion is something we anted to create for the audience.

Overall we decided that from these three titles that 'D.I.D you?' created the desired effect and fit perfect in our thriller and film trailer.

Script;

Here we created a script for our film trailer. This was to help us plan for the trailer so that when it came to filming and editing it would be a guide to follow.

Storyboard;

Here we made a quick storyboard to help us decide the sort of scenes that we would need to capture to create the thrilling film trailer we desire. The stills in the storyboard will help us plan what clips we think that would be relevant to the genre of a thriller. Also we tried to include what we believed was necessary in a film trailer.

The first image we created is to show the death of the main characters husband. However from this clip you maybe able to tell the death is of a loved one, but not necessarily who. Also the army uniforms gives the idea of how this person has died. We decided to include this shot so that it gave a reasoning of our main characters depression, which would eventually lead to her illness. In this shot we decided that we may use a birds eye view on the open grave and the coffin. Then we would use a close up to give greater detail and show the emotion of the main character.

The second image we created shows the baby, this introduces another character into the film. As well as showing the main character who has tears of joy, as she has a new son. This image is quite positive and bright. This is to help create a contrast with the rest of the film trailer. Also to show the contrast in the genre itself. We added a close up of the main characters face, to show how they are tears of joy and the brightness of this moment.

The third image shows a sudden contrast and change. This image is very dark, and negative. The non-diegetic sounds have become tears of sadness rather tan joy. This negative and dark shot begins to represent an atmosphere fear of death rather than new life like the shot before. Therefore this clips is the opening into representing the genre of a thriller.

The fourth image introduces the company. We decided to use a dark background as this is used in many thrillers as it link to the genre itself. We decided that we would use a bright or pale font color so that it would contrast and be clear for the audience to read. We shall use this font and background through out to keep the trailer recognizable and continuous. Also the dark background, is quite mysterious and can often be linked with the idea of danger.

The fifth image shows the woman having the dreams. These dreams play a big part in the plot of our story and will introduce a thrilling atmosphere. The surrounding will be quite dark and mysterious which also links with the genre. This clip also introduces part of the story line, this allows the audience to determine whether this is the type of thriller they will enjoy watching.

The sixth image shows the image of the police vehicle. This will add the action side that can often be represented in a thriller. This will hopefully introduce, the intense nature of the plot; which links to the thriller itself. Also it will raise questions in the audience; which will make the audience watch the film to hopefully find the answers. This image is part of the persuasion that is found in a trailer.

The seventh image is of the font and background again. This time the text is the actors/actresses name. This will hopefully make it appeal to a wider audience, gaining people who may just watch the film as they are fans of the actors/actresses. Once again there ill be a clear contrast making it stand out. We found that showing the actors name was popular in each deconstruction whether it was a thriller or a completely different genre, therefore we believed it was necessary to add it to our trailer.

 The eighth image is a repetition of the dream scene. As a group we found that in the deconstruction there was a repetition of similar scenes or shots, which made it easier for the audience to remember the trailer.  The editing we decided might work would be of a flashy and fast pace, this will hopefully build up tension and suspense for the audience. Also it once again adds a continuous feel to the trailer. Although it is a repetition there is a change in the fact that the figure will become a bit clearer.

The ninth image is once again of the font and background. This will make it recognizable to the audience because of how often it will be used ad repeated. This is something will also noticed in the deconstructions, thus deciding it was best for our film trailer too. This image will also be clear like the other texts.

The tenth image shows an extreme close up on the eyes of the main character. This idea is very similar to the image in black swan. Accept our main character will have blood shot eyes that look sore rather than evil. This is to create a discomfort in the atmosphere for the audience. Also it will show the sadness and confusion in the expression of the main character, which will hopefully make the feelings of the character very obvious to the audience.

The eleventh image shows an image of a ward. This is to show the sub genre of the thriller and to give an idea of the film and what makes it a thriller. The setting will be great dull and grey which adds a negative mood for the audience. This diegetic sound of the door shutting will create a shock and will hopefully make the audience jump and create tension; like most thrillers aim to do.

Plot Synopsis;

We created a plot to help us with our filming and to give us the idea of the sort of things we wanted to convey in our thriller film trailer.

A young adult; woman around the age of 24 suffers from Dissociative identity disorder (but doesn’t realise that she does). She has a baby and happily takes it home and becomes a single mother because her partner recently passed away; due to being killed in Afghanistan, this lead to her being diagnosed with depression but she tried to put it aside because of the baby. Even though the stress of the baby leads to anxiety.
It soon goes horribly wrong when the baby is killed, all the family thinks it has died due to Sudden infant death syndrome often referred to as ‘cot death’. However the mother does not believe it has died of naturally causes and believes her baby was killed by something/someone. She constantly has a dream of this memory of the ‘figure’ however the ‘figures’ face was never shown.
Convinced by this she goes to the help and investigations of the police. However they do not find any substantial evidence that anyone was involved, and list it as natural causes. Not letting this rest, as her dreams get more vivid and frequent, and her actions more out of place. The ‘figure’ becomes more apparent, to the point in which she see’s it is a woman. She hires a private investigator in the hope of solving this mystery and putting these dreams to rest. The private investigator becomes consumed in this story and the only solution due to the woman’s unusual actions and the depression, lead to the conclusion it was her. She will not take this as an answer and becomes violent trying to find her baby. She becomes dangerous to the public and other mothers, so she is taken into a psychiatric ward, were a door closes and her eyes open.

Mental Illness Research;

After deciding that our main character would have a mental illness that would effect her severely we decided to research into some. The research would help us decided what illness would relate to the type of film we wanted to create. Overall after researching a few mental illnesses we found that this disorder who relate to our initial plot idea very successfully.

Dissociative identity disorder:
This is a psychiatric diagnosis and describes a condition in which a person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities; known as alter egos, each with its own pattern of perceiving. Each sub personality or alternate personalities have a unique set of memories, behaviors, thoughts and emotions related to each specific personality.
Patients may experience an extremely broad array of other symptoms that may appear to resemble epilepsy, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders and eating disorders.

Main Character Idea's;

Here we made a quick mind map of what we imagine the main character to be like. This was to help us create our thriller plot around her. We decided we wanted to create a thriller that was almost biographical. Some of our ideas were from what we saw in successful thrillers, for example; the idea of the main character facing a mental illness. This is one of the continuous and main focuses of manyy and nearly almost psychological thrillers. This would also help when we try to find someone to play our main character therefore ultimately helping with our filming when it comes to it.

Audience Research Results;

Here the group decided to create graphs for our results this is to help to represent and show the difference in the answers. Also it is to allow us to understand what will be the best things to include in our film trailer. We aimed or questions at the genre we intended to create this is because, we wanted to find what made this genre such a popular genre and how we could make our film popular.

Question One;
Here we found that this question was used as an opening to the questionnaire. However we found that we wanted to aim it at both genders, therefore we found the same number of males and females. This to show an equal opinion and to offer the film to both male and female.

Question Two;
Here we asked the age of the person, this was to help decided whether our initial audience of older teenagers or young adults. We found ourselves asking the audience we thought they would be aimed at and from the results you can see the age range we thought thrillers would be most popular with; 15 to 18.  This was our initial thoughts of the age range, therefore we asked them so that we could gather ideas for our audience and film trailer.

Question Three;
This question is quite blunt and to the point this is to gather how popular thrillers are to this age range. The question offers a simple yes or no answer this to make the question quite basic with a straight forward. Here the graph shows how a large amount: 13 people do enjoy thrillers. Therefore agreeing with our initial thought of the genre being popular with the age range.

Question Four;
In this question we left it as an open question to allow the audience to show there opinion. In this question we gathered quite a wide range of results. However the most popular thriller film was: Shutter Island. However this only was greater by three people. This question was asked so that the group could research the films and see what sub-genre and plot was popular in the audience. Shutter Island had a sub-genre of psychological thriller, this re assured the group as this is the sub-genre we have considered to use.

Question Five;
This question was also an open question, so that the audience could of there own opinion. Therefore we would gather a more reliable answer. The highest result was: Tension. This may have been because tension is included in all the sub-genres of thriller. Also it is the atmosphere that the audience would feel therefore it relates to them. Therefore as a group we will make sure that this atmosphere will be created in our film trailer therefore linking it to what is expected from the genre.

Question Six;
Once again this was left as an open question to allow the questioner's to offer a truthful and personal opinion. This is question was quite an important question. Also in this question we will try and create all the aspects, hoping to create a good thriller. However the main aspect we will concentrate on the most is the creating of: a fast pace. This is to build up adrenaline and suspense for the audience.

Question Seven;
Here we began to ask about film trailers. We asked the simple question of if they are watched and if they work well for advertising this genre of the film. From the results there is a clear and massive difference, that shows that the larger percentage answered yes. Therefore we believed that we would have to create a really good trailer, that persuades our audience, as they play a big part in the audiences decision.

Question 8;
Here we asked about the sub genre this would help us decided on our genre for definite. The highest percentage shows that psychological, was the most recognisable and popular sub genre for a thriller. This allowed our group to decided for sure that this was the sub genre we would base our film trailer on. A psychological thriller creates a lot of confusion and suspense for the audience, therefore this is something we will focus on.

Question 9;
This question allowed us to develop our advertising and were the audience would see of trailer and advertisement for our film. We found from the results that the highest was in fact trailers. However we also added were these trailers would be seen, whether it was at the cinema, online or television. We found that on television was the highest. Therefore as a group we are going to create a trailer that is suitable for viewing on television.

Question 10;
When the group was doing the deconstructions we noticed that they would include the titles at different point of the trailer. We decided to ask to see if there was any difference in how it effected the advertising and persuasion for the audience. The results clearly show that the audience prefer the title to be at the end of the film trailer. This could because then it is easily remembered as it is the last thing you see, therefore helping create a larger audience.

Question 11;
This is a basic and straight forward question. We included this to help us decided what information we would include in our trailer. The results show that three quarters of the people we asked said yes, to being influenced by the cast/director. Therefore we will include shots that introduce the main character and there importance. Also we will include sub titles of the actors and director. This is to help persuade an audience.

Deconstruction of 'Black Swan';

Here we did a deconstruction of 'Black Swan'. We decided to do this as it has a sub genre of a psychological thriller which is a sub genre that we are consider using. Therefore we thought that it would be helpful to find some popular aspects.

The first still image  shows the production and distribution company, this is to help advertise their business. Also it is quite a familiar image for the audience and maybe a recognisable brand/company. The loud music which shock and capture the audiences attention.

The second still image is dark which adds the stereotypes of the genre. The spotlight introduces the main character showing her importance. However the shot keeps her face in the dark which adds a mysterious feel to the shot. The reflection of the ground is blurry also adding mysterious. The long shot allows to capture her action but is less detailed.

The third still image shows the companies name which maybe be popular and recognisable, this may persuade some audience to watch the film. The dark background has a texture of feather which links into the story and film itself. They use a simple white font  to contrast with the darkness of the background. This is to make it stand out and clear for the whole audience to read. The font looks quite feminine due to the curved nature of the font.
The fourth still image shows the director as he maybe recognisable and a popular. The font and background are continuous . This is so that the trailer is recognisable and will make it easy for the audience to remember. Therefore making the feather texture and font recognisable to the film.

The fifth still image  this shows a close up of the main character, almost like it is a portrait. The expression and emotion that is shown in the characters face are those of quite an awkward and weird. The focus in this shot is on the main character as the film is almost a narrative for the character and the mental problems she faces. The image is quite dark and dull adding to the thrill of the clip. Also it creates the atmosphere and the feeling of awkwardness for the audience themselves.

The sixth still image shows the continuous feel behind the background and text. However here it seems that the background has become more detailed. Therefore the texture is stronger. This allows the clip to give the idea of the movement; as the brightness around the texture of the feathers is changing. This image shows the films that were created by the director. The selection of films is most likely due to the fact that these were good sellers and popular for the audience. Also the selection of the two films show two dramas that may consider to be quite thrilling and active. This is persuasion technique used to help gain a larger audience.

The seventh still image shows another image of the main character. This image is quite dark. However the lighting used almost spotlights the character; which allows the audience to understand her importance. The mid shot is used here so that the audience can see some of the surrounding. Also to show the reflection, here the reflection is not the same position or expression as the character. This shows an element of the supernatural; which effectively adds a spooky and unsure feel to the image. The character has dark eyes, quite emotional, and skinny this could be seen as a stereotype of mental patient, as films of this sub-genre will often use a similar character.
The eighth still image shows an extreme close up this shot cuts out part of the characters face and the main focus in this image is isolated. The main focus is on the eyes; which show the emotion of fear and shock on the characters face. The emotion is very believable which creates a dramatic and realistic feel for the audience. Also the character is looking out of the shot which will ad mystery and will make the atmosphere for the audience become quite suspense.

The ninth still image shows an image of the same continuous background and font. This shot shows how the actress is an award winning actress. This would hopefully make it more appealing to the audience, especially if they like the actress. Also it shows the high standard of the film as they have been able to get a highly awarded actress. The font is fading in here, but still it manages to stay very clear and legible.

The tenth still image shows an extreme close up. This close up creates a discomfort for the audience, however it does link back to the title. This is quite an unusual scene which will link to the idea of a thriller. This shot has to show as much detail as possible to create the shock in the audience. Also this shot shows how the story begins to develop, which allows the audience to gain an idea of what they are getting themselves in for. Also showing the change in the character, this is important as the thriller is like a narrative.

The eleventh still image shows once again an extreme close up which isolates the eyes. This repetition in the similar shot helps the audience recognize the trailer. This close up is to help represent the change in the character and their characteristics. This can be seen as he expression is almost of fear, where as the eyes are evil and quite demon like. This will create a terrifying image for the audience. The shock is a continuous accept in this film trailer. The red eyes make the audience feel uncomfortable and in a way feel the sore eyes themselves, as it is realistic.

The twelfth still imageand background is used showing the importance of using consistency in a film trailer. Also the font is larger which shows how it is of a greater importance than the sub titles in the rest of the trailer.

Deconstruction of 'Shutter Island';

We decided to deconstruct the film trailer of Shutter Island as this is a thriller which is also a psychological thriller. This is similar to the genre we are going to base our own film trailer on.  Shutter Island is quite a recent film; therefore it will hopefully relate to a modern and update audience. Also it is quite a mind challenging film suggesting that it appeals to young adults and older.

The first still image shows a close up shot on the main character of the film. The close up is used so that the character is recognised as being important in the film. Also to show a well known actor who is recognisable and maybe the reason why some people are watching the film trailer, therefore persuading them to go see the film.
The second still image shows the setting. The setting is quite dull and is in a mid shot. Also gradually fading forward is the corporation’s title, this is the corporation that helped to distribute the film.  The fading of the title tries not to take too much focus of the setting. However the setting gradually gets darker and the text getting brighter. Therefore the contrast is growing so that the text stands out.

The third still image shows an elderly lady from what seems like a point of view shot from someone passing by. Also the elderly lady has quite horrific features adding to the suspense of the film genre. Also she has reddened eyes which suggest that she is not well and mentally ill.
The fourth still image shows an action of an arm moving. The main focus of the clip is in fact the gun. The gun suggests danger thus adding to the thrilling genre. Also in this scene the surroundings seem quite dark accept were the gun is therefore it seems to spotlight the gun making it the first attraction and focus.
The fifth still image shows the location in which the film is set. The location is old and dark which is a continuous and recognisable trait for thrillers. This links it to the films genre nicely. This image shows a dull setting and the wild overgrowth of the building makes it appear old and not used.

The sixth still image shows a group of people in a low lighted room. The low light adds to the suspense. The time the film was made can also be shown in the dress of the characters and also in the old type of machinery which is in the left of the shot. The light is coming down on the equipment which helps outline and make it strongly stand out from the rest of the busy scene.

The seventh still image shows a point of view shot. The shot is from the character looking down into the notebook. The notebook shows a quite threatening message, however it is warning too. The message shows the danger which is going to happen in the film. The text is bold and edgy this makes it stand off the page. Still in this clip like the rest the scene is dull and in a foggy low light.

The eighth still image shows a black screen with a white font. This contrasts with the background which makes it clear and easy to read. The font is quite square this makes it appear bold and blunt. The actors name is written this is to allow the attended audience to know who the main actor is. This may also help to persuade the audience to watch it because they like the main actor.

The ninth still image shows quite a horrifying shot of a man reaching out of bars. This aggressive action adds suspense to the atmosphere of the audience. Also the dim light continues with the rest of the trailer and the theme of a thriller. However there is a flicker of light just about the arm this helps to highlight the arm, also it makes the dust and smoke standout which is often associated as quite negative imagery.

The tenth still image shows quite a disturbing image of the main actor holding a pile of ash in the shape of a woman. This adds to the thrilling and confusing aspect of the thriller. The main character is in the middle of the shot, therefore his presence really stands out and the audience focus on him. Also the emotion in the main characters face shows a lot of grieve and pain, which helps the audience feel this atmosphere too.
The eleventh still image shows the title. The font form the subtitles is used to consistency. Also the dark background adds to the idea of a thriller, where as the white font contrasts to this; which makes it clear and bold to read for most of the audience. Also its size will make it really stand out, therefore making it easy to remember for the audience.

The twelfth still image shows some additional information, that maybe important for the audience. Also the fact that is based upon a book may persuade some of the audience to watch it as they enjoyed the book. The font is still used here showing the importance of keeping a coincident font and style.

Deconstruction of 'Insidious';

We also decided to deconstruct a horror as the comparisons we could gather will help us create a thriller which is recognisable as a thriller rather than getting confused with a horror. This is because they are often confused and some maybe labelled as thrillers, when they truly have the traits and effects of a horror. For example if they show a lot of violence or if they show much more gruesome and gory effects. The horror we decided is quite recent it is: Insidious. Insidious means something appearing in a gradual but harmful way.

The first still image shows the co-operation which helped create the film. The clip uses a dark colour as the font this helps it stand out from the background. Also it helps create the horror film as well as the red background. The red background isn’t a block colour and has the appearance of red clouds, which adds to the horror genre and the idea of being dangerous. Also the colour red is frequently associated with danger.
The second still image shows the title of the film. The title seems to be a faded white font, which looks distorted. Also the sound here is a continuous ticking which is started by an object form a different scene at the very start of the film trailer, its starts of being a diegetic sound as it is visible but then as the images change and the clicking stays it becomes a non-diegetic sound. The clicking almost mimics the heartbeat and creates suspense in the atmosphere. Also there is another non-diegetic sound of a high pitch echo which raises the fear in the audience.

The third still image  shows simply the word 'is' this is to help behind suspense and to help build a description of what is expected of the film. The same font size and type is used form the still image before to help keep the similar theme continued. Also it helps keep the effect the same.

The fourth still image shows the head shot of one of the main characters in the film. The head shot allows the audience to be introduced to who's story they will be following. It also shows them the an actor which maybe recognisable and may persuade them to watch the film. The lighting is quite dark in this shot except the light behind the character which seems to illuminate the character even more in the image.

The fifth still image shows who has made the film. It also shows what else they have made that could be recognisable to the audience. The two films they relate to are also horrors which show that this is what the company is good at. The font in this still is the same as the title. There fore it is also white on a dark red background The background is no solid and looks as if it is blurred, which gives the effect of movement. This consistency helps the clip more remember able as it all links.

The sixth still image shows an over the shoulder shot of the younger boy. This is to introduce another character into the story. The boy is in the center of the shot which gives the audience the feel he is the most important. Also in this image the boy is not blurred were the other two characters are thus linking to the idea of him owning the shot.  The whole image is dark and has minimal lighting which adds to the darkness expected from a horror.

The seventh still image shows what appears to be a old looking piece of equipment. The piece of equipment is quite mysterious and confusing which adds to the horror genre. This piece of equipment is shown to be important as it takes up the whole of the shot and the hand which is in the shot is blurred as well as the images around the equipment. This makes the equipment stand out and become the main focus for the audience.

The eighth still image shows a black and white image which adds an old effect and also a mystery as the image is no longer in colour. The hand print appears to be blood and the stain is carried across the whole image. The print could show how the scene is meant to be dangerous and scary. Also the hand will add the idea of supernatural.

The ninth still image shows the title. The title zooms in to the shot, making it shocking and the focus of the audience. Also it makes it unmissable, which will help the audience remember what film the trailer was for. The same font is used from previous titles and the same background. To add the danger and to keep the consistency of the trailer. This is so when the audience come back to trying to identify the trailer it becomes easier for them.

Deconstruction of 'Crazy Stupid Love';

We decided to do a deconstruction of a romantic-comedy this was because we saw it as a completely different genre to thriller and though that it would be a great opportunity to make comparisons. Also it would help us to recognize the differences in the two genres and the way they are presented. This would then go on to help us find what would not fit with the genre of a thriller.

The first still image shows an example of the transitions used in this clip for example you can see how the clip has changed scene by sliding into the other as if they were all a circle. In this clip it gives the audience the taste of the comedy in the film. Almost like a teaser of what is to come. The upbeat and high pitch music makes the clips seem to be of a positive attitude. Therefore linking it to the genre of the film trailer.
The second still image introduces one of the main characters. They introduce him with the character himself saying the simple greeting of ‘Hello’. The music smoothly changes to something that seems to be a bit more dramatic. The music suggests that the man is meant to be a bit of a smooth player and is to be seen as the attractive one in the scene. Also the close up shows how in this scene this character is the most important to introduce, as most of the time is spent focusing on him.
The third still image shows both of the main characters together, and shows how they met. The lighting is dim here this helps to create the setting and atmosphere. Here a mid shot is used to show how the characters are sat with each other and how they are both important therefore the shot is balanced for the characters.  The music is used as a background noise and helps create the effect of the genre. This is because the music is quite upbeat and cheery, which shows the comical effect of the film trailer. Also in this shot you are introduced to what the characters are like by the way they are holding themselves, also showing how they both appear to be comfortable around each other.
The fourth still image shows both main characters. It shows how one is more confident than the other in the way he has positioned himself whilst naked. Also the use of the other characters head as almost a shield is a good use of the positioning of the cameras. It makes the scene and comical effect quite suitable and discrete. Rather than being crude and a bit too much. Therefore showing how the film can appeal to much larger audience as the age restriction will be lower.
The fifth still image shows one of the main characters bursting through the doors. The way in which he does this shows hoe he is commanding attention and is not scared to receive it. Also the music seems to get louder here this could help to create the dramatic and sudden effect of this character bursting through the doors. Also because the doors and surroundings are quite dark it appears that there is a spotlight around the character.
The sixth still image shows the co-operation that helped to create the film. This is shown through the well known contrast of white on black this helps appear bold and strongly stand out. However the background is a fading black. The effect of having the black become a blue almost spotlights/highlights the words. Also the font is very basic which makes it eligible to most of the attended audience.
The seventh still image shows the title of the film. The title is also a black and white contrast, which is in the same font as the co-operation. This helps to continue the theme and helps link them together. Also the title takes up the whole screen to help it memorable and sticking. Here the title appears to be half-way through the trailer; this could help the audience link it with the film, when they come to remember the trailer. The music is still continuous throughout the trailer, however here it appears to have become louder.
The Eighth still image shows one of the characters in the film with the actors name next to them. This is done with most of the frequent characters in the film. This helps the audience recognise them and main even persuade some to watch the film because the actor/actress is well known or one of their favourites. The lighting for each shot of the characters are kept the same this is to help the clip but continuous and make all the shots and clips flow.
The ninth still image shows the two main characters once together. This is so that the ends of the trailer links back to the start of the trailer were the characters meet. This suggests that the characters stay friends. Also it is so that the audience will them remember who the main stars are. As the most of the trailer is spent on them which show there importance and that they are the ones to remember.

Mind Map 2: Our Choosen Genre

Here we created what we thought would be needed within the genre of a thriller. We decided on using thriller because we thought that it would be something in which we show our creativity. Also we agree that it will be the one genre we could have the most fun with making and editing. The group also decided that this genre would help us show our best abilities.

A thriller is a genre in which the audience feels a high amount excitement and suspense. Also they receive a sudden rush of emotions and exhilaration for the film to continue. Also some thrillers raise a lot of confusion and questions; which are gradually answered as the film continues.

Thrillers can be split into sub-genres:

Conspiracy Thriller: Were a hero/heroine confronts a large powerful group of enemies whose true intentions only she/he knows.
Crime Thriller: This a hybrid of thriller and crime. They often focus on a criminal or crime and concentrate  on the action.
Disaster Thriller: This includes a disaster either man- made or natural. This sub-genre generally focuses on the events around the disaster: survival strategies and the effects on the characters.
Erotic Thriller: This is a mix between erotic and thriller films.
Medical Thriller: This is when a medical team is struggling to find a cure or to control a dangerous medical problem.
Psychological Thriller: This is character-based and the character are playing games and deceiving one another. Sometimes it occurs in one of the characters own mind.
Political Thriller: The character must ensure the stability of the government against all odds.
Religious Thriller. This can be based around religious teachings and events. They often include evil being released and prophecies.
Romance Thriller: This follows many thrills and events in which a relationship and passions comes in with two of the characters.
Spy Thrillers: Usually has a character who is an agent that must take violent actions against other agents or terrorists.
Supernatural Thrillers: This includes a supernatural power that must be called upon, or were there is a battle including a paranormal force. These are often confused with horror, except thrillers are less violent.

Many thrillers are often created with a different sub-genre and often a few sub-genres can merge into the one thriller. This then will create something new and give a completely different thrill ans suspense, which maybe new for the audience. Thus making it appealing.

Mind Map 1: Genres and Examples

Here we created a mind map of all the genres. This was because as a group we decided it would help us select the genre we were going to create. Also we gathered examples of that genre to help us understand that genre. Therefore we used films that we had watched and remember to help us pick out the differences. However some films now use more than one genre and work with a few to create a new type of genre and to show a different creative ability. Also some film genres may have several sub-genres which help seperates the huge amount of films in that genre.

Here is Black Swan, this is an example of a thriller genre. This thriller is psychological. This type of thriller uses suspense, tension, and excitement as the main elements. Also thrillers are often based around stimulating the viewers mood for example: high levels of anticipation, anxiety, uncertainty and terror.

As Black Swan is an example of a psychological thriller there are such themes as: confinement, horror of personality and obsession. Which help to build the suspense and terror of the film.

Here is the first of the Pirates of the Caribbean this is an example of an action genre. An action genre is were one or more characters are thrown into to face a serious of challenges, that require physical attributes. In this film this is shown through extreme fights and often were the lead character: Captain Jack Sparrow is trying to escape.  The also contain life threatening situations to appeal to the suspense and excitement of the audience.

Here is the genre of comedy and the example being The Hangover. A comedy's main emphasis is based around humour and the want to make the audience laugh. Comedies are meant to be light-hearted and entertaining. The often exaggerate elements such as: situations, the way in which someone speaks and actions of the characters are usually seen to be over the top.

Here is an example of a musical. The musical being Chicago, a musical is simply were songs are sung by characters and are woven into creating the narrative. The songs are usually used to sustain the plot and develop the characters. For example certain songs will help to make the characters personality stand out.

  Billy The Kid is a classic Western genre. They are often defined as films that are based in the American West and is based around the spirit, struggle and demise of a new frontier. Westerns will often have conflicts between native Americans or bandits. They also often end in the hero winning.

Here is an example of a rom-com, it is a film called The Ugly Truth which is the mix between comedy and romance. They are often light-hearted and based around the notion of true love.  Most rom-com's will end happily as it keeps the feel of a positive and light hearted film. However the comedy usually comes acroos the strongest when there is an argument or falling out.

Here is Saving Private Ryan, this is a strong exampl of a war film. This genre is based around warfare, normally naval, air or land battles. Sometimes these can be combined. This film has a quite negative, but more realistic look on war. Also this is an example of a biographical war film. Rather than just the battle itself. Other war films can be based around a historical war and others are based on fiction.

Here is an example of a childrens film: Madagascar. This films are directed at the audience of children and make noe real effort to appeal to other audiences. These films are often positive, as it will want to gain apositive effect on the children. Often childrens films can cross with comedies, as this is an effective way to appeal and entertain the target audience.

SALT is an example of a crime film. A crime film is often based around the skills and the live of a criminal. Crime films can be based on a real criminal or a fantasy one. However both seem to take a biographical aprroach to the film.

Also this film could also be labbeled as an action, with a criminal plot. Therefore showing how film genres are occasionally crossed to make a new exicting film.

The Duchess is and example of a Historical film. A Historical film is based on a famous event or person. Some historical films can be seen as quite factual and almost like a biography and others are fictinalized based on deeds found about that person.

This is the first of the Transformer films these are seen to be a sci-fi genre. This is a example of a film which bases its film around a futuristic idea of robots and other technologies. However other sci-fi films may base there's around supernatural events or unexplainable creatures; which may be based around mythological creatures. A definition of sci-fi is 'the use of actual, realistic science which is then merger with social accepts.' However not all sci-fi's can relate to this definition. A sci-fi is something that is shocking and normally unexplainable.

This is the most recent Indianna Jones film. These films are recognisable examples of adventure films. Adventure films often include exploring exoctic locations, the are explored in exciting ways.The often include plots which are based around a quest for a certain historical object or to find the answer to some historical question. They often include a villan who makes it difficult for the main characters to find what they are looking for.

The Notebook is a well known Romance Film. A Romance film is a story which is based on characters who focus on passion and stron emoiton. Also it is always based on two characters in love. Often in romance there are obsticales in the way of the characters being able to be together. However the idea 'that love is the strongest of all' and 'that love cam make it through all the bad' is often seen in the result.
