Here we have chosen one of the posters Black Swan. This was to link it to the film trailer that we had deconstructed early. This will help us to understand how the poster links with what is shown in the film trailer.
The first section I have separated simply shows the directors name and the title of other films he has directed. This is to show the viewer as the director is well known and may persuade some of the audience to watch the film based on other films they may like from the same director. The font is quite small, which makes it a bit hard to read for the viewer. The font has an almost point to each letter which will link to the danger and thrill of a thriller. The font contrasts well against the background, which makes it stand out and known that it is there and despise the size it makes it illegible to the viewer.
The second section is simply of a feather. This is a black feather and due to its dark nature it makes it appear quite mysterious. Also it shows the importance of birds in the film, which links to the title ‘Black swan’. Another positive to having the feathers floating around is to make the image look less simple and boring. It adds to the poster and its creative nature. Also the different size of feathers makes the poster really stand out for the audience as it makes it appear almost 3d.

The fourth section shows two more names, these actors and actress also appear in the film. However they are written underneath the name of the main star which hints that they are less significant in the film. This links to the film trailer as we found that the main star was seen throughout the whole trailer, whereas the others are only seen at most twice. Also in this section it shows the title of the movie. This part is a lot larger to the rest of the text, making it really standout to the viewer which will help them remember the film. The text is in the same font as the rest adding to the consistency; however it is completely white this is to show the contrast between the text and the dark black dress. Also the font in the poster is the same as the trailer which links them well making them more recognisable for the viewer/audience.
The fifth shows the bottom part of the poster, which shows the co-operation logo’s, other actors and people important in the production of the film. Like the Shutter Island poster these are a lot smaller and less clear. This makes sure the focus is mainly on the title which is more important. Also to make sure the poster does not appear over crowded. Right at the bottom of the poster slightly bigger in the centre says the word ‘December’ this is to show when about the film will be released. This bit of text is in a similar position to the Shutter Island poster. This allows us to see that it is something that we should include when creating our own movie poster. Another thing that is shown is the red glove over the lower hand, the red is to represent danger and blood as these things are often associated with red and this genre it is used also to show a contrast between black and white.
