Creating the Characters;

Here we created the ideas that we had for our characters. Our most important character is the woman. We had previously created a mind map with afew ideas of what she could be like. Here we have decided how she will be represented in the film. This will also include the creation of the costumes, and the explanation of how they represented the characters.

One of our characters was a nurse who appeared for a small amount of the clip, which I offered to play. We created the nurse by using a light blue shirt and creating a circle hat out of paper. We then clipped the hat into the hair which was pinned up to hold it in position. We decided to pin my hair up as this is often how nurses would wear the hair due to health and safety.  A close- up of the hat shows that it was not very realistic but we found when filming that the hat worked successfully and added to the look of the nurse.

Our next character that we created was on of the detective. We wanted the detective to have quite a stereotypical look. Therefore the look would be quite dark, to create this we decided on using all black.  We borrowed a long black coat, black hat and black shoes, we borrowed these from my dad, as to add to the stereotype we wanted quite a masculine detective. The darkness of the outfit and how the hat cover my face adds to the mystery and shadiness of the genre.

We then went on to create our main character. However our main character did not just have one look, she had three, this was to help us tell the story but also to show a contrast from the beginning character  and the end character.
The first look was when the mother was in hospital and holding her child. We decided to use a dressing own to create the outfit this was to add to the setting, but also to give the idea of tiredness which is often linked with a dressing gown. Also a dressing gown is used for comfort thus another reason for using it. We then went on to create the hair, which we simply did by using gel and rubbing a large amount through her hair to give it a wet and sweaty look. This seemed to work successfully. The make up we decide to be quite minimal, with smudgy eyes, were she had been crying, this would help give the appearance of just giving birth. Also the darkness of th eyes fore shadows what is to come in the thriller.

Next was the main character retuning home with her baby. In this look we still wanted to convey comfort. Therefore we gave her quite everyday and comfortably clothes. We kept  the make- up the same to add to the stress of just coming home from the hospital, also to link to the sorrow of loosing her husband before.  We decided to put the hair to add a cleaner look, and to keep it out of her face, which is often done when someone hasn’t done their hair. Thus linking to the relaxed nature of the costume.

The last look is the one where the main character has gone mad. This outfit was meant to be quite an edgy look, this is to link to the edgy nature of the woman. Also to link to the atmosphere of the film.  We used an oversized shirt to add to the uncaring nature the character has to her appearance. We then add smudges and marks to the shirt, to give it a worn and dirty look. We then went on to creating the make up, we added bruises and scratches this was to link to the idea of the character being dangerous; which links to the thriller genre.
