Creating Props and Effects;

This shows the process we went through in creating the props, also the lighting effects. We tried to create the props in an effective but money saving way.  The first and main prop is the baby, we simply borrowed the baby of a friend who had kept some of her old toys. We were quite happy as the baby had quite a realistic look to it.
The next prop was that of the cot. To create the cot we use a washing basket, which we then covered with a big knitted cardigan, this was to appear like a blanket to add comfort for the baby. We then added a heart shape cushion that had quite a baby feel to it, also the small heart represents the love for the child. Then we added some knitted fabric to create a blanket to be draped of the baby, to keep it warm. After we had created the cot we decided that it needed something to raise it and position itself on, therefore we placed it on top of a dressing table stool, which was white and white is often linked to purity and innocence. However this contrasts to the red of the blanket as red is often associated with danger and blood; this links well with the idea of the thriller genre.
The next was the hospital bed. Luckily I have a white bed in my room. However the bed had red fabric and roses attached to it; so we decided to make it more like a hospital bed we would cover the ends with white sheets.  We kept the white sheets and cushion as these represent innocence and purity and are often seen in many hospitals.  We decided to keep the chair in the shot as there is often a chair for visitors in an hospital room. However we did decided to move the Chanel bag as it did not link to a hospital and the sad feelings that the character has of raising a baby on her own.

Lighting was quite a big part of the filming and to create certain setting we had to experiment with  how we could create the correct lighting. In the hospital scene we simply used a bright artificial light which would be used in a hospital. However it became tricky to create the dark light for the cot death scene. Therefore we decided to almost spotlight the baby, with the use of a tall lamp. We then went on to the dream scene, were we need it to be almost completely dark. However we still wanted to see the shadows of the figure and the cot. Therefore we kept the lamp, but covered it with a wool black hat. This seems to work successfully when shooting the trailer.
